In light of the recent arrest of VDM and the subsequent resolution urging all Ratels to withdraw their funds and close their GTBank accounts, I believe it’s important to reassess our strategy to avoid unintended consequences.

While the motivation to close accounts and express dissent is understandable, I caution against the physical closure of accounts at GTBank branches. Such an action would necessitate a large-scale, in-person presence at bank locations nationwide.

This could result in unnecessary congestion, logistical chaos, and potentially escalate into a crisis that mirrors the unfortunate hijacking of the #EndSARS protests, where what began as a peaceful movement was derailed by external actors and chaos ensued.

Instead, I propose a more tactical approach: a coordinated, digital-driven mass withdrawal of funds by all Ratels.

This method is both peaceful and effective.

In today’s banking ecosystem, digital platforms allow customers to significantly reduce their balances or transfer their funds without setting foot in a branch. By doing so, Ratels can send a strong financial signal to GTBank without exposing themselves to physical risks or confrontations.

Moreover, the psychological impact of large-scale fund withdrawals will not go unnoticed.

As GTBank observes massive outflows from known Ratel-linked accounts, it may trigger concern among other customers, including high-net-worth individuals and non-Ratel Nigerians, who could interpret these actions as signs of systemic instability.

No prudent individual wants to be caught off guard in a banking crisis.

As fear of liquidity risks grows, others may follow suit by withdrawing their own funds.

This domino effect, driven by perception and financial prudence, can be just as powerful, if not more so, than a physical protest.

It protects the safety of all involved, reduces the chance of hijack or violence and delivers the intended message to the bank and the broader system.

In summary, I strongly discourage in-person account closures at GTBank branches and instead advocate for a calculated, peaceful, and fully digital mass withdrawal campaign.

Let us be guided by strategy, not just sentiment.
