SMART goals are a proven method for setting clear and achievable objectives. The acronym stands for:

  • S – Specific: Clearly define what you want to accomplish.
Example: “I want to improve my physical fitness” becomes “I want to run three times a week.”

  • M – Measurable: Include concrete criteria to track progress.
Example: “Run 5 kilometers in under 30 minutes.”

  • A – Achievable: Make sure the goal is realistic given your resources and abilities.
Example: Don’t aim to run a marathon next week if you’re just starting out.

  • R – Relevant: Align the goal with your broader life values or priorities.
Example: Improving fitness to boost energy and mental health.

  • T – Time-bound: Set a clear deadline or timeframe.
Example: “Reach my 5K running goal within 8 weeks.”

SMART goals turn vague intentions into actionable plans.
