Bubbles, Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee, became one of the most famous non-human companions associated with a celebrity. Jackson acquired Bubbles in the early 1980s from a Texas research facility when the chimpanzee was just a few years old.
Bubbles lived with Jackson at his Neverland Ranch in California and reportedly had his own room, slept in a crib, and ate at the dining table with Jackson. Bubbles was often photographed wearing clothes and even appeared in a few music videos with Jackson, including "Leave Me Alone" and "Liberian Girl."
After Jackson's death in 2009, Bubbles was relocated to the Center for Great Apes, a sanctuary in Florida, where he continues to live out his days in a habitat designed to meet his physical and emotional needs. Bubbles' story has raised awareness about the complexities of keeping wild animals as pets and the importance of providing proper care and enrichment for captive primates.
